What is Heat Insulation?

All events in nature progress in a way the quality of energy will decrease. It is an example for it that a cup of hot coffee left on the table eventually cools off and a cold drink eventually warms up.This fact known as the second law of thermodynamics was introduced by the resarches of William Rarkin,Rudolf Clasius and Lord Kelvin in 1850s.That people can live a comfortable life is  possible with the environments where the temperature is between 20-22°C and 50 percent  relative humidity .In winter season, ambient temperatures are well below 20C.In summer season,air temperatures are well over 20C.Heat is a type of energy and according to the second law of thermodynamics, heat transfer into lower temperature environment from higher temperature environment.So in buildings there occur undesirable energy loses in winter and energy gains in summer.To  ensure desirable comfort in the building ,the heat lost in winter should be met with a heating system and  heat gained in summer be disposed from domestic environments with a cooling system.

Limiting heat gains and loses in building means the reduction of amount of energy  that is used for heating and cooling.Heating and cooling processes mostly require transport of hot and cold fluids through relevant equipments.It's unavoidable there occurs a heat transfer that reduce the quality of energy ,to environment from hot fluid or to cold fluid from environment in accordance with the second law of thermodynamics.To obtain the desirable performance in heating and cooling systems, the fluid should be used hotter or colder than usual by taking consider of the amount of gains and loses.That leads an additional energy consumption.The process done for limiting the heat gains and loses in buildings and installments is called heat insulation. Thecnically heat insulation is used for reducing heat transfer between two environments with different temperatures.

 

With heat insulation, it's possible to extend the life of buildings,present health and comfortable residences to user and obtain gains in fuel and cooling costs while using the building.A great deal of fossil fuel is used in heating the buildings.The gases occured as combustion products  as a result of burning  fossil fuel,causes air pollution and global warming.The reduction of the amonut of energy that is used in heat insulation applications and in maintainig the comfort conditions prevents increase in global warming and air pollution.Heat insulation applied in accordance with regulations has many benefits for individuals and countries.The most important among them is its contribution to the energy saving.
